Our 2024 round-up

19 December 2024

It has been yet another challenging year for many in the Telecoms sector. Yet we’ve had a lot to celebrate. We were proud to reach our 10 year anniversary on the 10th day of the 10th month. I’m thrilled that G Comms’ unique culture and community vibe is stronger than ever.

Celebrations

The celebrations began with our fabulous ‘Munch and Mingle’ event. A team quiz with a selection of goodies to enjoy. With more celebrations planned – we’ll make the most of the anniversary throughout 2025.

2024 has been a year of internal successes and promotions. We’ve seen team members move departments, and others secure leadership jobs. Each continues to develop and create value.

Despite the market’s volatility, we’ve made strategic investments to ensure we deliver the best possible service. Our customers remain at the heart of everything we do, driving our commitment to innovation and excellence.

Adding Value

At G Comms we’re big on improvement. That’s why we aim to focus on creating extra value for clients by addressing specific challenges, both internal and external. Here’s what we accomplished:

1. Informed Improvements

We’ve enhanced our pre-stage, test, and screen capabilities, completing over 100 sites for customers. Client feedback helped us develop time-saving, risk-reducing, cost-cutting solutions. While not ideal for every situation, it has proven valuable, and we’re excited to expand it in 2025.

2. Inspiring Generations

This year, we proudly supported Cornerstone’s CNFE program, hosting a training day for a key client. Led by Ben Cordery, UK Sales Manager (Rosenberger), and supported by Shane Ward, Sales and Technical Lead (G Comms) , the event was both engaging and highlighted the importance of investing in future engineers.

We’re grateful to Rosenberger, our long-term partner, for helping us make this happen. We look forward to holding more events like this next year. It’s all part of the work we do to improve quality and consistency across the network.

3. Growth

We are always growing and evolving. With such a strong, experienced team we know the importance of reviewing our work and meeting customer expectations. We keep a close eye on our talent to match people to the right roles. This helps us deliver the best possible outcomes.

4. A New Team Member

This year, we welcomed April Khan as our first internal HR Manager; she has already made a huge positive impact. April focuses on people engagement, communication, learning, development, and wellbeing.

April is planning a team expansion to strengthen our team and SHEQ functions. Watch this space for more updates!

5. Promotions

We’ve also had some fantastic promotions. Alan Kennedy, our Programme Manager, is now Warehouse General Manager. His deep knowledge of the industry, customers, projects, products and processes makes him an incredible asset.

Ian Kimberley moved into Account Management, where he works to improve the lives of our clients. We’re excited to build on this progress and provide even better support in the New Year.

6. A New Board Member

Last, we’re thrilled to announce that Nigel Newton has joined the G Comms board as a non-executive Director. Many of you may know Nigel from his 21 years as Managing Director of Clarke Telecom & Clarke EV.

He brings years of leadership experience in the telecoms and EV sectors. We’re excited to work with Nigel as he provides strategic oversight and valuable guidance to the board. We are very lucky to have him!

The six improvements and achievements listed are our highlights of the year – at G Comms we’re always striving to be better.

Giving Back and Social Impact

At G Comms, 2024 has been a year filled with unity, joy, and community impact. One highlight was our Charity Football Match. We came together and raised £3,600 for the Neonatal Unit at Heartlands Hospital Charity, which far exceeded our goal.

Halloween gave us another chance to give back. Spooky treats raised vital funds for Mind, the mental health charity. We are passionate about shining a light on the importance of mental health awareness.
And as Christmas approaches, we’re supporting three charities. We’ll take part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. We’re also volunteering with Feed Brum. Then we’ll join Dunelm’s Delivering Joy initiative, providing gifts for those in need.

Kindness and community are at the heart G Comms.

Recognising our team

This year, our Employee of the Month initiative became a full Employee Awards Ceremony. One popular highlight is the “Good Catch” award, where employees are rewarded with £50 vouchers for spotting and solving issues outside their usual duties.

These awards reinforce our core values, the 5Gs: genuine, gritty, groundbreaking, goal-oriented, and green. This represents who we are. By linking achievements to these values, we’re building a culture of excellence, innovation, and sustainability.

We are also excited to share our G Comms Calendars for 2025. This year’s theme is celebrating our people. Well done to all our team, and customers, for thriving in such a challenging environment. Keep it up!

Accreditations and awards

After a three day British Assessment Bureau audit we maintained our ISO accreditations. They didn’t identify a single non-conformity across all three: ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. We are very proud of our G Comms team.

We are also excited to share that G Comms has achieved the We Invest in People Gold accreditation. This award recognises the dedication and hard work of every team member. Only 28% of organisations achieve Gold. It shows our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can succeed.

Gold accreditation confirms we have the right policies in place and that everyone takes ownership of bringing those policies to life. Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, shared: “We’d like to congratulate G Comms. Gold accreditation is a fantastic effort for any organisation.”

A big thank you goes to Kerry Ireland for her thoughtful and insightful assessment. The process provided useful feedback, celebrated our strengths, and inspired us. We are excited to build on this foundation and create an even brighter future together.

2025, Let’s GO!

This year our milestones and achievements have shone through. Even during tough times for our industry – but we are shaped by our experiences. We continue to grow because we are resilient, adaptable, and passionate about what we do.

We’re excited to work with both old and new clients next year. As always we commit to being the best we can be, helping our customers achieve their best too.

Thank you to our amazing team, customers, suppliers, and partners. We wish you all a joyful and peaceful festive season. Here’s to 2025 — better together!
